What a mammography expert witness is asked to determine
Mammography evidence is commonly record-led. Images, screening correspondence, reports, recall documentation and later imaging may need to be considered together without allowing knowledge of a later diagnosis to substitute for the original clinical context.
- Whether the mammogram was technically adequate and the relevant views were obtained.
- Whether an abnormality was visible and reportable on the images available at the time.
- Whether recall, further imaging or multidisciplinary referral was indicated.
- Whether a reporting or communication issue altered the timing of diagnosis.
- How imaging evidence should be separated from oncology, surgery and pathology questions.
