Local context
Examination practicalities
These local reference points are included as context for examinations and records, not as a statement that a listed practitioner holds a post at any named organisation.
County court jurisdiction
Section 1 of the Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 provides that Northern Ireland is no longer divided into county court divisions and petty sessions districts, and that the jurisdiction and powers of county courts and magistrates’ courts are exercisable throughout Northern Ireland. It came into operation on 31 October 2016, so the former County Court Division of Londonderry no longer exists as a jurisdictional boundary.
Administrative divisions
Administrative court divisions survive under section 2 of the 2015 Act, through directions made by the Department after consultation with the Lord Chief Justice.
Expert evidence rules
Expert evidence in the Northern Ireland High Court is governed by the Rules of the Court of Judicature (Northern Ireland) 1980, and in the county court by the County Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1981. The Civil Procedure Rules do not extend to Northern Ireland.

Frequently asked questions
Where would a Derry assessment take place?
Each listing names its consulting locations and assessment types before you make contact: face-to-face appointments are held at the practitioner's own premises, and remote assessment removes the journey altogether where the case suits it. Nothing about the logistics is left to be discovered after instruction.
What if the specialty my case needs has no Derry listing?
The instruction is still covered. Location results automatically include practitioners who assess remotely, each labelled with where they are actually based - so a Derry search never ends at an empty page while a remote-capable specialist exists on the register.
Can I shortlist Derry experts by sub-specialty, expertise or gender?
Yes - the register filters by category, specialty and specific medico-legal expertise as well as location, and every listing displays the practitioner's gender and experience. A Derry search can start from the precise question in issue and a sensitive-instruction preference at the same time.
