Court context

Courts serving Derry/Londonderry

NOT APPLICABLE — the High Court District Registry system is created by the Civil Courts Order 2014, an England-and-Wales instrument; Northern Ireland has a single High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast, with no district registries. Scope of SI 2014/819 verified; positive NI-side confirmation not obtained. Confirm affirmative wording with NICTS.

Court venue as named by the Department of Justice (NI): 'Londonderry Court Office', The Courthouse, Bishop Street, Londonderry, BT48 6PQ. The DoJ court-offices page uses 'Londonderry' consistently and never 'Derry'. Listed as an operating court office (i.e. open).

Examination practicalities

These local reference points are included as context for examinations and records, not as a statement that a listed practitioner holds a post at any named organisation.

01

Clinical setting

SINGLE NI-WIDE COUNTY COURT JURISDICTION — CONFIRMED, same as Lisburn. Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 s.1: 'Northern Ireland is no longer to be divided into county court divisions and petty sessions districts'; jurisdiction and powers of county courts and magistrates' courts are exercisable throughout the whole of Northern Ireland; in operation 31 October 2016. The old 'County Court Division of Londonderry' no longer exists as a statutory division. Do NOT repeat the seven-divisions claim.

02

Teaching presence

Administrative court divisions survive under s.2 of the 2015 Act (directions made by the Department after consultation with the Lord Chief Justice). Derry/Londonderry is understood to fall in the Western administrative court division, and a Londonderry Recorder's Court designation is said to survive. NOT CONFIRMED — s.2 itself is verified, but the division names and the Londonderry Recorder's Court point come from a search snippet of LCJ Practice Direction 5/16, whose PDF would not render. Verify before publishing.

03

Coroner area

Expert evidence in the NI High Court is governed by the Rules of the Court of Judicature (Northern Ireland) 1980 (SR 1980/346), and in the county court by the County Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1981 (SR 1981/225); the CPR does not extend to NI. NOT FULLY CONFIRMED — instruments confirmed to exist and to be the NI rulebooks, but I could not read the operative expert-evidence rule text (Order 25 was not on the schedule pages fetched), and no primary source was found stating the CPR negative directly. Verify before publishing rule-specific wording.
